A prayer for an end to unjust rule
the overthrow of oppressive regimes
the extinction of bribery, torture and ethnic cleansing
A prayer for international organizations
and nation states
and the good ordering of our global life
A prayer for the unjustly imprisoned
for the ignored and forgotten
for the little people
who slip between the fingers of justice
who have never known the shalom of God
who hunger for life with thirsty strength
May they know, deep in their bones, the goodness of love
May we build together the new creation.

Fasting

What is the fast that God requires?
 
To live at peace with the Earth
To hunger for justice
To thirst for the waters of life
 
What is the fast that God requires?
 
To live simply
Enjoying what the Earth gives
And eating the bread which can be shared with all
 
What is the fast that God requires?
 
To reject what we screw from a world resisting
Which brings terror and fear and exploitation
Which exhausts the land and tortures its creatures
 
What is the fast that God requires?
 
To nourish the land and feed the starving
To clothe the naked and release the captives
To strengthen the weak and encourage the fearful
 
What is the fast that God requires?
 
To enjoy only that which is good and wholesome
To consume only that which can be replenished
To live lightly and gently on the good, wide earth which is our gift
 
This is the fast that God requires
